The wave of 80's electro-pop revival bands is quickly becoming a tsunami with the commercial success of bands like The Killers and The Bravery. Next in line? Rock Kills Kid, whom Rolling Stone selected as one of "10 Artists to Watch" in March. Even if U2 wasn't one of their biggest influences, lead singer Jeff Tucker sounds so much like Bono that you'd assume he spent a good portion of his reclusive adolescence trying to imitate the philanthropic Irish pop idol. In fact, the first track on the album "Paralyzed" could easily be a single off of Pop. As the album progresses songs like "Are You Nervous?" and "Run Like Hell" show the band's ability to construct catchy 80's-style electro-pop songs with overtones of despondency, but it's impossible to shake the impression that Rock Kills Kid is a U2 cover band trying out their own material.
